Papers were generated by a suit against the company by William S. Figgat for himself and others for payment of loans and include memoranda, articles of agreement, copies of loan agreements, judgments, a deed of trust, and a resolution for sale of assets. Many of them contain docket numbers from their presentation as evidence. One item concerns an action brought over sawing of timber. Also of interest is the 1851 authorization to borrow money to complete the road from Buchanan to Staunton and the 1855 stockholders decision to sell the road to pay debts. People represented in the collection include President James G. Paxton, secretary C. Chapin, and directors Samuel M.D. Reid, Benjamin F. Graham, William Hardy, Archibald Graham, and James M.P. Taylor.
